Mormon Political Clout Grows
Here’s a great article from USA Today on the growing clout of mormons in politics.
When Harry Reid, Democrat from Nevada, takes over as Senate majority leader in January he will be the highest ranking Mormon in politics. Mormons have more representation in the U.S. Congress than the LDS Church holds as a percentage of the population.
The article also states that 35% of Americans recently polled would never vote for a Mormon. That’s a much small number than what was recently reported in the Salt Lake Tribune. The numbers show that people will vote for a Mormon but just how far they are willing to go won’t be known until sometime around November 2008.
Its going to be an interesting two years.
